From the recording Gold and Coal
It's about resilience, about the gamble we all take, and the hope that keeps us going, even when the future seems uncertain.
It is a song to remind us to trust in ourselves and the things that make us inherently who we are.
Inspired by the Nightingale, who’s song rings out in the darkness of night, showing us that beauty can be found even in times of darkness.
The lark, one of the only birds who sings while in flight, reminds us to enjoy the journey, arduous though it may be.

Lyrics
I happened upon a well without a wish
Thinking how am I gonna make the best of this
Only a penny to my name
Should I throw it in the game?
Or come back again?
Oh Nancy of my heart
Don’t you hear the sweet lark
Don’t you hear the sweet nightingale sing
Don’t you hear the fair tale of the sweet nightingale
How she sings in the valley below
How she sings in the valley below
I put all that I had on black
And they looked at me like I was going mad
It’s only one for the money
But it’s two for the show
That’s just how it goes
Oh come back again,
That’s just how it goes
Something’s on the rise
Oh in the valley below
There’s no telling what is coming down the line
But the lark will keep on singing as he flies
And there’s no amount of worry
That can keep him from the skies
Something’s on the rise
